503 to win

live-cricket-england-vs-west-indiesWest Indies have been given a mammoth target of 503 runs to win the 3rd Test at the Antigua Recreation Ground. England had a mini collapse towards the end of their 2nd innings losing 4 wickets for about 40 runs. It was a little baffling to see Andrew Strauss not declaring earlier, especially when Andrew Flintoff who is carrying a hip injury first walked in at no.9 and then struggled for an over before completing his pair for the match - even then the declaration didn’t come.

It was eventually clearly evident what the English catpain was after - the moment a couple of lusty hits helped the lead over the 500 mark, the declaration came in immediately. 503 is a record breaking total to chase - no team in the history of test cricket has successfully chased a target of over 500 runs. West Indies have over one and a half day of cricket to negotiate, and at the moment they would happy if they can keep their lead intact at the end of the 3rd test.

Graeme Swann, the England spinner who is only playing his 3rd test might hold the key to the test. Swann surprised and impressed everyone with his haul of five wickets in the first innings. On the final day wicket, he may just be more lethal.
