ICC Champions Trophy to be held in South Africa instead of Sri Lanka
You can expect the cricket’s governing body to make the quirkiest of demands. The ICC asked the Sri Lanka cricket board to give a guarantee that it won’t rain in Sri Lanka during the ICC Champions Trophy which was set to be held in the island nation from September 24th to October 5th. Since the Lankan cricket board failed to furnish such a gurantee, the prestigious cricket tournament is now set to be hosted by South Africa.
After facing much criticism over the format of the previous Champions Trophy, the ICC has now decided to crunch the tournament to a period of just 12 days. Let’s hope the new format is more exciting and produces better cricket.
As for the shifting of the tournament from Sri Lanka to South Africa, we can only conjecture whether it was the rains which caused the change in mind or was it the possible security concerns which would be raised by various teams on the eve of the tournament.
