Current Standing in the Series: India has already won the series. Currently the visitors lead 3-0 with the final match to be played on 14th March.
Previous Match: New Zealand batted first and scored 270 off 47 overs. India’s reply was much interrupted by rain but powered by an explosive innings from Sehwag ( Fastest ever century by an Indian in one-day cricket: 60 balls), India swept aside the home team to score 201 off 23.3 overs. India declared winner based on the Duckworth-Lewis system.
5th ODI Preview: India may rest some of their players to allow some of the cricketers on the bench to get a chance to play in the middle. Pragyan Ojha and Dinesh Karthick likely to get a shoe-in.
Trivia: Interestingly, the first ever ODI played at Auckland was also between India and New Zealand. That match, played on 22 February 1976 was a one-sided affair. New Zealand batted first to score 237 runs. India could manage only 156 in return. It was a 35 overs match, but it was an 8 balls an over affair back then.
Ace Spinner Bhagwat Chandrashekhar made his one day debut in this match.
Auckland is also the venue where New Zealand were bowled out for 26 in a test against England in 1955. That indeed is still their lowest score in a test innings.
The Eden Park ground in Auckland also hosts rugby matches besides cricket.
