India have won the toss and electet to bowl. The idea obviously is to use the freshness of the first day wicket with th expectation that batting conditions will improve on day 2 and day 3. Balaji has failed to make it to the fnal XI with Munaf Patel winning his place. ( This despite the fact that Munaf had made a mess of things in the final one day - after bowling two height no-balls he had been removed from bowling any furthe by the umpire in the middle of an over.)
Martin Guptill who impressed with his performances in the one day series is all slated to make his test debut for New Zealand as an opener. Mc Intosh is likely to be the other opener.
