Sehwag scores Fastest Century by an Indian in One Day Cricket
Virender Sehwag broke Mohammed Azharuddin’s record to create a new one day cricket record for the Fastest century by an Indian. Sehwag completed his 100 in just 60 balls. His unbeaten innings of 125 included no less than 14 hits to the fence and 6 over it. And can you believe it, that Sehwag innings powered India to a score of over 200 in just the 23rd over. Imagine the individual and team records that could have been broken had India played for the full 50 overs.
Sehwag’s powerful innings gave India a comfortable victory in the rain-interrupted 4th One Day against New Zealand at Hamilton. New Zealand who batted first compiled a decent total of 270 runs off 47 overs. India’s chase was repeatedly interrupted by rain and when the match was finally called off India had batted for just 23.3 overs. Sehwag was on 125 and Gautamb Gambhir, the other opener who gave him great support was on 63. India’s score was 201/0 and when the match was adjudicated by the Duckworth-Lewis system, India were declared the winners by a margin of 84 runs.
India thus won the five match One Day Series against New Zealand, and have now an unbeatable 3-0 lead. The fifth and final one-dayer against New Zealand goes live on the 14th March.
